What to Do If You or Someone You Know Is Being Bullied Online
Being bullied online can hurt just as much as bullying in person, and it can feel like there is no escape because the messages follow you home. Please know that it is not your fault and that you can get help.
Do not reply in anger
It is natural to want to fight back, but replying often makes bullies continue. Take a breath and step away from the screen before doing anything.
Keep evidence
Take screenshots of the messages, names and dates. This helps if you need to report the person to the app, to a school or to the police.
Block and report
Block the person so they cannot contact you and use the report option in the app. The team can review and remove accounts that break the rules.
Tell someone you trust
Talk to a parent, relative, teacher, counsellor or good friend. Carrying this alone makes it heavier. If you feel hopeless or in danger, contact local emergency services or a helpline in your country straight away.
Protect your accounts
Change your password, check who can contact you and make your profile less public if needed.
If you see someone else being bullied
Do not join in or laugh. Message the person privately to show support, and report the bullying. Small kindness can mean everything to someone who feels alone.
Remember: the problem is the bully's behaviour, not your worth.
